Strengths

Weaknesses

William Branham was a deluded heretic, who was heavily influenced and involved in the occult. He denied the fundamentals of the Christian faith and his ministry was built on a sordid foundation of extra biblical revelation and counterfeit signs and wonders. Branham was unable to understand scripture - his sermons are bizarre at best. He was a poorly educated man and from his birth he was plagued by occultic manifestations. Branham’s faith healing ministry appears to have been empowered by a fallen angel (demon) who remained with Branham throughout his healing ministry, revealing the satanic influence behind his ministry.

Branham was influenced by the teaching of the occultist Franklin Hall. William Branham was fascinated with the Zodiac and Egyptian occultism as was his mentor Franklin Hall. Branham’s obsession with the occult is evident even in his death: his grave is marked by an occultic pyramid tombstone.

Truth Watch: Assessment / Warning

William Branham was plagued by occult manifestations from birth. According to Branham in his “Life Story” his birth was accompanied by a supernatural manifestation. A light appeared above his head soon after his birth. This same manifestation appeared with Branham right throughout his life. This manifestation could apparently be seen by the congregation while Branham preached from the pulpit. This same light has also shown up in various photographs as a halo or flame around or over Branham’s head. These photographs still circulate among Branham’s followers who have accepted this as proof of Gods presence and approval of William Branham and his occultic faith healing ministry.

It seems evident that Branham acquired a familiar spirit from birth. This accounts for these manifestations of light that plagued him. Branham began to see visions of angelic beings from the age of three. At the age of seven Branham heard an audible voice telling him that he was not to defile his body in anyway as he had important work to do in the future. He went on to have many other visions and to hear audibly, voices that related information to him concerning future events. In 1946 William Branham’s ‘angel’ manifested to him once again and bestowed on him counterfeit gifts of healing and prophecy. He claimed to have received power from his angel, which enabled him to read the minds of people. Branham could not heal without his ‘angel of light’ being. 2 Corinthians 11:13-15 For such men are false apostles, deceitful workmen, masquerading as apostles of Christ. And no wonder as Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light. It is not surprising then, if his servants masquerade as servants of righteousness. Their end will be what their actions deserve.

William Branham manifested the occultic ‘gift’ of clairvoyance, which enabled him to see spirit entities (demons) who appeared to him as angels of light. He was able to hear spirit entities audibly because he manifested the false occultic ‘gift’ of clairaudience. Branham and his gifts were not from God as he and his followers claimed, but from Satan. Matthew 7:22-23 Many will say to me on that day Lord, Lord did we not prophesy in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles. Then I will tell them plainly, I never knew you. Away from me, you evil doers.

Satan can and does counterfeit spiritual gifts. He does perform lying signs and wonders and satanic healings with the intention to deceive the undiscerning. 2 Thessalonians 2:9-10 The coming of the lawless one will be in accordance with the work of Satan displayed in all kinds of counterfeit miracles, signs and wonders, and in every sort of evil that deceives those who are perishing. A good example of Satan’s counterfeit power at work is in Exodus. Pharaoh’s sorcerers/magicians were able to counterfeit the Lord’s miraculous sign’s and wonders by their secret arts (occult powers) but only to a certain point. The Lord has limited Satan’s power. This is shown in Exodus as the magicians could only counterfeit three of the Lords eleven miraculous signs: the snakes/blood/frogs. See Exodus 7-12.

We are never to judge a ministry by its manifestation of signs and wonders, but by it’s doctrine. William Branham’s teaching was clear heresy that blatantly contradicted scripture. (see beliefs and key doctrines for an in-depth look at William Branham’s heresy). Galatians 1:8-9 But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let him be eternally condemned! As we have already said, so now I say again: If anybody is preaching to you another gospel other than what you accepted let him be eternally condemned!

2 Peter 2:1 But there were also false prophets among the people, just as there are false teachers among you. They will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the sovereign Lord who brought them-bringing swift destruction on themselves.

1 John 4:1 Dear friends do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.

We must search scripture like the Bereans to see if what we are being taught is of God.

Acts 17:11 Now the Bereans were of more noble character than the Thessalonians, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true.

Ephesians 4:14 Then we will no longer be infants tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and the cunning craftiness of men in their deceitful scheming.
