The Da Vinci Code and The Beast - How will Christians respond?

The recent crop of Hollywood movies continues the age old assault on truth, our Lord Jesus Christ and Christianity. The Passion, The Da Vinci Code and up-coming movies The Beast, Mother Theresa and Mary amount to little more than pop-culture twists of truth. The Passion failed to explain why Jesus had to die on the cross and one shudders to think what The Beast will convey. Dan Brown’s ‘Code’ does more than twist the truth, it ignores it altogether!
Christianity has always faced attack and persecution but perhaps these movies represent a more serious threat than most realise. Film is a powerful visual and sensory medium. People are often happy to accept and even live out ideas and behaviours absorbed through movie going and TV watching.
Many Churches today have succumbed to Laodicean luke-warmness – a watered down gospel, complacency and worldliness Revelation 3:14-22. Jesus had nothing good to say about people who fail to up- hold the principles and doctrines set out in His word. How well is such a church able to withstand the impact of a mass media assault? How prepared are they to defend their faith? Of course, onslaughts of this nature will have little effect on those Christians who know, study and trust in God's infallible Word.
Truth Watch believes many Christians will respond rather mutely to this current batch of movies. These films tend to push the ‘sacred feminine’ as central to Christianity, mirroring the false Mary worship within Roman Catholicism. They ignore or play down the full and final atoning work of Jesus Christ on the cross and they pour scorn on the Bible’s reliability as the source of ultimate truth. Truth Watch fully expects all the aspects of a poorly performing church, set out in our Long Declaration, will work against any effective Christian response to the movie mogul’s attacks.
