Will there be Revival in the Last Days?

This question was the title of a challenging address by Jacob Prasch, international teacher and evangelist, during a recent visit to Lower Hutt.

The following outlines his main points:

The current world-wide pattern of God’s grace being turned from rich to poor countries where Christianity is rapidly growing, indicates the failure of Toronto, the Charismatic Movement, Alpha, 40 Days Purpose Driven etc. to bring about revival in the west. For example, homosexuals are being ordained, an estimated 1,000 people leave the Anglican Church every week and Islam is increasing. Biblical revival is the turning back to “first love” which begins with weeping and repentance and not “a laughing revival” whose perpetrators continue to prophesy falsely of an outpouring of God’s Spirit. The Bible speaks mainly of end time apostasy not revival.
The Old Testament end times of Judah provide a pattern for the end times prior to Christ’s return; both Jeremiah and Jesus warn about false prophets in their ministries. Jesus warns about end time false prophets more than any other sign. Many major Christian world evangelists preach the lies of “Dominion Now” theology, peace plans and a prosperity doctrine.

Events with patterns having specific characteristics which are repeated in the Bible serve to emphasise the importance of a topic or doctrine. Sinful Judah had a last chance to repent from their evil ways under good kings such as Josiah and David who tore down the features of idolatrous practices. Current unbiblical beliefs in many purportedly Christian churches and sects would need to be torn down, radical repentance pleaded and God himself sought (not just revival per se) for true revival to take place. People need to seek churches where sound doctrine is faithfully preached.

Although there was revival in Judah it could at best only delay an inevitable judgment of God for three reasons:
  1. Judah had allied itself with the king of Babylon who is a type of Satan. The church has generally adopted the ways of the world whose prince is Satan
  2. Judah had accepted other gods, in particular Moloch with its child sacrifices. In America alone 47 million babies are aborted, less than 1% for medical reasons
  3. Judah offered candles and incense to graven images
The church has embraced, condoned or remained silent on these issues prevalent in our society and judgment must come. At best it can be delayed by:
  • Earnestly seeking God
  • Tearing down evil before trying to build
  • Destroying corrupt clergy
  • Restore financial integrity
  • Rediscover the Word of God
  • Radically repent
Considering New Zealand’s post Christian society, the evil practices sanctioned by law and so willingly embraced by society in general, Jacob wondered why, when examined through the lens of God’s Word, there was no person from this country sounding a warning. From a man who has proved to be so accurate in predicting the outcome of men’s ungodly conduct when examined by the Word of God, this warning demands our attention and response.
